Abstract:

With the increase of screen time of computer, TV, digital devices, problems related to eyes have shown substantial increase across all age groups. Inadequate care and management, lifestyle have further aggravated eye related issues decade after decade. In the first part of the talk, doctors from L. V. Prasad Eye Institute will provide information on eye diseases and eye care. It will be an interactive session which covers preventive, curative and simple steps to take care of your eyes in daily life.

In the second part of the talk, Dr. T. P. Das will deliver a motivational talk on his life, his inspiration and his book "Flight of a bumblebee-Journey in compassionate eye care". He will narrate several events that have been a lesson in shaping his life both personally and professionally and will describe the secrets of converting opportunities to mission and the pleasure of being an integral part of a compassionate eye care.

 Biography:

Dr. Tara prasad Das received his basic medical education in Sambalpur University, Orissa, and completed his postgraduate training in ophthalmology at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Pondicherry, and at Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai.

He also received further subspecialty clinical training at University of Illinois Medical School, Wills Eye Hospital, Jefferson University, Philadelphia, and at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard University. He worked as retina faculty in Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai before joining the L V Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad in 1990. He has an international reputation as a retinal surgeon. He has published more than 180 papers in international and national journals, written 37 book chapters, and authored/ edited 8 books. He was editor of the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology from 1999 to 2004. He is honored with Padma Shri in 2013.

His current leadership also includes Regional Chair, International Agency for Prevention of Blindness; and Vice President, Asia Pacific Vitreo Retinal Society.
