The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, has announced the ranking of all engineering institutions for the year 2017. According to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar has been ranked ‘18’ among all the engineering institutes of the country.
The Ministry launched NIRF during September 2015. This framework outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country. The methodology draws from the overall recommendations broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by Ministry, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions. The parameters broadly cover “Teaching, Learning and Resources,” “Research and Professional Practices,” “Graduation Outcomes,” “Outreach and Inclusivity,” and “Perception”.
On this achievement, Prof. R V Raja Kumar, Director IIT Bhubaneswar expressed his happiness and mentioned that IIT Bhubaneswar scaled up to 18th position from 26th position in comparison to last year’s NIRF Ranking of Engineering Institutions. The Institute has secured third spot among all the new IITs (started during 2008) compared to its position of last rank during NIRF - 2016. These rankings are based on the data of last three academic years.
Prof. Raja Kumar reiterated that IIT Bhubaneswar has taken some important steps on multiple fronts including teaching, learning, research and shifting of entire academic activity to its permanent campus in last two years. He also mentioned that the Institute would have figured at top 2 among the new IITs based on the current academic year’s data. The Director emphasized that IIT Bhubaneswar needs to do better with the improvement in productivity amongst the faculty and the learning levels of students and expected to figure amongst senior IITs.
