Blood Donation Drive

Souls for Solace, IIT Bhubaneswar in association with Alma Fiesta and Students Gymkhana, IIT Bhubaneswar conducted a blood donation drive at the institute's Community Center, Arugul campus on 17th October, 2016. The event was conducted in partnership with Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar. The event served towards fulfilling the social cause- Blood donation- adopted by Alma Fiesta for its 2017 edition.

Students, not just from IIT Bhubaneswar but also NISER, earnestly participated in the event. A total of 108 units of blood were donated on the evening, surpassing all expectations by a long shot. The participants were awarded a certificate and an Identity Card (for if they ever needed blood) besides refreshments to get them up and running again. 

The greatest takeaway from the evening was obviously the satisfaction obtained from doing a good deed, especially one which might perhaps be the difference between life and death for someone in need. Along the way, many myths about adverse effects of blood donation were busted too, as the doctors present spoke at length about the benefits of the same. What, on intense scrutiny, left something to be desired for was participation from the faculty members.Nevertheless, the students more than made up for their absence by turning up in huge numbers.

All in all, the event was extremely memorable and soul-satisfying, especially for the students donating blood for the first time. The students were already looking forward to donating blood on more occasions, and that can never be a bad thing.
