The Women's Grievance Redressal Committee, IIT Bhubaneswar conducted a Self Defense program on 2nd, 9th and 16th October 2016. Instructor of the program was Mr. Rajesh Kumar Biswal who is a 2nd DAN black belt- 05250325 and a national referee of taekwondo federation of India. He is also general secretary of Taekwondo Association of Khurdha, Odisha which is affiliated to Taekwondo association of Odisha. Programme was started with introducing the Master and his companion Mr. Vipin to the student by chairperson WGRC, Dr. Remya Neelancherry. This training programme mainly focused on protecting ourselves in different types of real time situations using various techniques in a three days course as follows:
Day 1: Introduction of trainer and his team to the student by chairperson WGRC. Subsequently, trainer Mr. Rajesh Kumar Biswal started the session with briefing history of taekwondo and its usefulness in different situations. Thereafter, he started teaching some basic exercise to increase body strength and also some of the techniques of self-defense.
Day 2: Second day of the programme encompassed practical and practice session. Mr. Rajesh Kumar Biswal explained different situations and defensive tactics for such situations. The defensicve techniques were demonstrated by the trainer and gave training to the participants.
Day 3: Third day of the programme was also a practical and practice session. On this day, students learned more self-defense techniques including the rescuing from knife and gun wisely and hitting back using kick and elbow techniques. The session was concluded after summarizing all the techniques and practice with different equipment.
At the end of the session on behalf of WGRC, Mr. Alok Pathak, coordinator of WGRC facilitated Mr. Rajesh Kumar Biswal with a memento and thanked everyone for attending the programme.
