A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for long term R&D Collaboration was signed by Prof. R. V. Raja Kumar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar and Dr. Umakant Choudhury, Executive Director, Corporate Technology Management, at IIT Bhubaneswar. On the basis of the presentations made by Dr. Choudhury, and Heads of Schools of IIT, several areas of interest for collaboration were identified. Through further discussions, a list of about a dozen areas where IIT Bhubaneswar can collaborate with BHEL were identified for further discussion in the first phase. The major areas identified for collaboration range from Carbon Nanotubes to System Level Study on Grid interaction of multiple highbrid PV System.

Prof. R. V. Raja Kumar, Director said that the present collaboration would give the Institute faculty members to contribute for technology development in the areas of energy, power systems including renewable energy sources. Dr. U. K. Choudhury, Executive Director expressed that there is a lot of common interest and huge potential for collaborative research between BHEL and IIT Bhubaneswar through this MoU.
