School of HSS&M, IIT Bhubaneswar is conducting a short term course on “Productive Efficiency: Theory and Practice”, under GIAN programme of MHRD from 30th May to 8th June, 2016. The short term course was inaugurated and presided by Prof Sujit Roy, Dean (Continuing Education). Sixty four participants, comprising of research scholars and faculty members, are participating in the ongoing short term course from different premier institutes of the country, such as IIT Kanpur, IIT Khargpur, IIT Indore, IIT Madras, IIT Ropar, IIT Bombay, IIT Roorkee, NIT Rourkela, Central University of Jammu, Aligarh Muslim University, University of Hyderabad, Assam University, Utkal University, Ravenshaw University, University of Guwahati, and other universities of repute. Prof Kaliappa Kalirajan from Australian National University and Prof Biresh Sahoo , XIMB Bhubaneswar are the international and national resource persons respectively for the ten days long short term course.
While introducing the course to delegates and participants, the co-ordinator, Dr Naresh Chandra Sahu, highlighted the main objectives of the short-term course. In his opening address, he pointed out that Indian economy is growing at a very high rate vis-a–vis the industrially advanced countries of today’s world, and the high-growth trajectory can be sustained by enhancing productive efficiency of different sectors of Indian economy in the days to come. In addition, he also stressed that by improving productivity efficiency, we can achieve ‘green growth’ objective i.e., producing more goods and services with less resources.
Prof. Kaliappa Kalirajan, guest faculty for the course from Australian National University, addressed the participants and focused on the importance of productivity efficiency for reducing poverty and maintaining high economic growth in India to achieve better standard of living.He put emphasis on the need of technical efficiency for raising the productivity efficiency. In addition, the participants were also provided with a brief explanation about the content of the course going to be covered in the next ten days of the short term programme.
