On 8th March 2016, IIT Bhubaneswar celebrated International Women's Day holding an event at the institute auditorium at Samantapuri campus. The event was organised by the Women's Grievance Redressal Committee (WGRC) with great enthusiasm and effort by the WGRC team, comprising of the WGRC members and Student Representative Team. The event was graced by Chief Guest Ms. Kiran Manral, eminent author and social activist, and Guest of Honour, Prof. P. Yasodhara, Honorary Director of National Institute of Social Work and Social Sciences (NISWASS), Bhubaneswar. The inauguration session was presided by our Director, Prof. R. V. Rajakumar and Dean, Continuing Education, Prof. V. R. Pedireddi.
The inauguration for the event was done by the Director, Prof. R. V. Rajakumar, followed by an interview with Ms. Manral and an inspiring talk by Prof. Yasodhara. There was a panel discussion involving faculty and students on the topic "Prohibition of entry of women of certain ages in places of worship". After the panel discussion, a vote of thanks was delivered by the Chairperson, WGRC, following which high tea was served.
Cash prizes were awarded to students who won competitions conducted by WGRC in the fields of poetry writing, story writing, logo designing and photography by the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour. Finally, the event was concluded with a vibrant cultural programme by students, which left the audience spellbound.
