College cultural events are some of the most happening events in the city. The inauguration of ALMA FIESTA 2016 with the theme QUEST IN THE WILDERNESS — the 3 day annual socio cultural fest organized by IIT BHUBANESWAR— that took place recently on 15th to 17th of this month had a lovely touch.
The inaugural evening of Alma Fiesta was presided by Dr. R. V. Raja Kumar- Director IIT Bhubaneswar, Dr. Soobhankar Pati-Chairman Alma Fiesta 2016 and various other dignitaries of the college. Mr. Sudharshan Pattnaik- the renowned sand artist and Padhmashree awardee by government of India in 2014 was the chief guest for the evening.
To celebrate the rich cultural heritage of our nation, Alma Fiesta 2016 presented a virtuoso of staggering proportions, Kala Ramnath , synonymous with “The Singing Violin” who is at the vanguard of the present generation of young Indian super stars. The Rashtriya Kumar gandharvasanman awardee Abhijt Banerjee, one of the top class table players in India was also present.
The night was successfully ended by the splendid performance by Gotipua dance group in association with SPIC MACAY.
The second day of the fest marked the start of the huge variety of various inter collegiate competitions in the genres of dance, dramatics, music, fine arts etc.
The second day was concluded on a high note when magical fingers of Bollywood EDM artist Nikhil Sahani aka DJ NYK played its aura over the console and made the crowd of Bhubaneswar mad with the fusion of EDM and Bollywood.
The three day festivity finally came to an end with the mesmerizing concert of the young, famous and talented singer Nikhil D'Souza- who with his magical voice made the hearts of many skip a beat. The awesome performance by this singer gave the Bhubaneswar junta some of the best Lamhe of their lives.
The three-day festivity of ALMA FIESTA was attended by more than 2,000 students from across 30 colleges in India, who participated in more than 50 different competitions related to music, dance, dramatics, literary, fine arts etc. It also had many workshops like salsa, android app development, paper quelling, clay modelling and photography. With some of the innovative initiatives like MUN and PRAYATNA-the social drive campaign to enlighten the students with uses and need of CONSERVATION OF ENERGY, this students' initiative truly set out to redefine the socio cultural aspect of the life.
