UNNAT BHARAT ABHIYAN (UBA)
IIT BHUBANESWAR
Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is flagship mission of the Ministry of Human Resource Development. This mission is targeted to use the expertise available in the premier academic institutions of higher technical education like IITs to improve the quality of rural life through innovative and affordable technological interventions. Initially two villages were adopted and developmental activities are already initiated by the Institute. As suggested by the Honorable Human Resources Development Minister during her visit to the Institute as chief guest of the 4th Convocation, a few more villages are being adopted. The UBA villages include “Argul”, “Podapada”, “Kansapada” and “Khudupur” near the permanent campus of IIT and another two villages in the district of Cuttack and Jajpur. The name of the village selected in the Banki Block of Cuttack district is “Jorkul” and the name of the village selected in the Jajpur district is the “Sunduria” as desired by the late MP of Rajyasabha, Mr. Kalpataru Das, as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
The issues to be addressed in the 1st phase are: improvement in quality of School Education, internet connectivity in the schools and villages near the campus, water purification, sanitation, health care, skill development, awareness towards digital India, renewable energy use etc. The Collector of Khurda district has assured all kind of support from the district administration for successful implementation of this scheme. Some of the on-going activities taken up by different Departments of the State Govt. related to rural development will be connected with the UBA programme and Collectorate may work as the facilitator.
