School of Infrastructure, IIT Bhubaneswar organized a five-day training program on "Survey, Investigation, and Preparation of DPR for Bridges in Rural Roads" from September 9 to 13, 2024. The program emphasized the importance of data-driven research, geotechnical investigation, and safe, resilient bridge design. Hosted by the School of Infrastructure at IIT Bhubaneswar, the event aimed to provide comprehensive knowledge on bridge construction.

The inauguration was led by Er. Ashok Kumar Basa, a distinguished bridge engineer from Odisha, former President of the Institution of Engineers India (IEI), and currently the Executive Vice President of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO). Other notable attendees included Shri Aswani Kumar Padhi, Senior Bridge Engineer from SMEC India; Prof. V. Panduranga, Dean of Continuing Education at IIT Bhubaneswar; and Prof. Sumanta Haldar, Head of the School of Infrastructure. The course was coordinated by Dr. Suresh R. Dash and Dr. Umesh Chandra Sahoo, both from the School of Infrastructure.

More than 40 delegates from across India, specializing in bridge analysis, design, and construction, participated. The training was financially supported by the National Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (NRIDA), Government of India.

Throughout the five days, the course covered essential topics such as bridge planning, DPR preparation, soil investigation, hydraulic design, load assessment, and the design of superstructures, substructures, and foundations with seismic considerations. Advanced subjects, including lightweight bridge design and bridge health monitoring, were also explored. Hands-on exercises and a field visit to an under-construction bridge site provided practical insights to the participants.
