“Civil Conclave” is an inter-IIT event conducted by IIT Roorkee during winter with different events like case studies, research work presentations and guest lectures. IIT Bhubaneswar secured an overall 6th position among all the participating IITs. Contingent of IIT Bhubaneswar took part in 2 case studies and a UG research work presentation.
The notable performance came from the team who participated in the case study “Resolving the Effects of Vehicular Loadings”, sponsored and evaluated by GR Infraprojects Limited, which secured Runners Up (2nd ) position. The participants of the team were four 3rd year students, namely Soumyajit Manna, Subhajit Banerjee, Vadlapudi L S V Ratna Chowdary, Ayush Agnihotri. This team was guided by Dr. Anush Konayakahalli Chandrappa.
They had targeted at showing that VDF is not a major entity in design traffic calculation for flexible pavement, and suggested a better approach in capturing the damaging effect of the overloaded points in pavement design by including some other essential parameters, such as variation in tyre pressure, temperature, and other exceptional factors. A 3-dimensional finite element model of flexible pavement was developed using ABAQUS software, and the field conditions had also been considered to ensure the impact of the practical environment and static analysis using IIT Pave software. Their work was appraised by Mrs Atasi Das, Vice President of Design of G R Infraprojects Limited in the valedictory ceremony and encouraged to continue the work.
