GIAN course on Stochastic Soil-Structure Interaction organised by School of
Infrastructure, IIT Bhubaneswar, June 26 – 30, 2023
School of Infrastructure (SIF) of Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar organised Ministry of Education (MoE) sponsored GIAN course on Stochastic Soil Structure Interaction. Prof. Sumanta Haldar and Dr. Shantanu Patra coordinated the course. The event was held at School of Infrastructure, IIT Bhubaneswar during June 26-30, 2023. Prof. Dipanjan Basu, Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Waterloo, Canada was the course faculty. About 40 participants were attended the course. The fundamentals of soil structure interaction and reliability-based design were discussed. Mostly, challenges in the uncertainty-based analysis and design of various soil-structures interaction problems were outlined. The participants were exposed to the various guidance on the practical problems and their solutions, considering the uncertainty in soil shear strength parameters. Participants gained knowledge on various numerical methods available to solve stochastic soil-structure interaction problems with various examples and case studies. The course proved to be an excellent opportunity for practicing engineers, students, academician in application of stochastic soil structure interaction. The program ended with closing remarks by Prof. Sumanta Haldar followed by feedback session and certificate distribution.
