Dr. Dubey is a native of Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh. He did his B.Tech. from SJB Institute of Technology, Bangalore. He further went on to complete his MTech from NIT Raipur and pursued his Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology Indore. His dissertation focused on the “Assessment of hazard associated with mass movements in the Himalayan region”. His research interests include disaster risk management, remote sensing and hydrology. Dr. Dubey did his postdoc at the University of Dayton, USA in a project funded by NASA. His postdoctoral work focused on developing new models to detect avalanches and landslides in alpine regions. Dr. Dubey was also awarded the Young Scientist award by M.P. Council of Science and Technology, Government of India.

At IIT Bhubaneswar, Dr. Dubey plans to do interdisciplinary research in remote sensing and disaster risk reduction.

In his free time, He loves to play badminton, watch soccer and take part in social activities like blood and organ donation camps.
