Dr. Manas Ranjan Pattnayak is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the School of Mechanical Sciences at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar, India.

Dr. Pattnayak is a native of Berhampur city, which is in the Ganjam district of Odisha. He is currently 27 years old. He completed his B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela, India, in 2018. He further pursued his direct Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, India, under the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF) program from July 2018 to August 2023. His doctoral dissertation is titled “Development of novel bore aerodynamic journal bearings for sustainable industrial technologies.”

After his Ph.D., Dr. Pattnayak worked as a visiting research fellow at the Institut Pprime, University of Poitiers, France, from September 2023 to December 2023 under the Raman-Charpak fellowship program 2022 by CEFIPRA. He went on to pursue his postdoctoral research on “Development of compliant air bearings for high-speed turbo-compressor rotors” with Prof. Tae Ho Kim at the Mechanical Design and Vibration Control (MEDVIC) Laboratory of Kookmin University, Seoul, South Korea, from January 2024 to July 2024.

Dr. Pattnayak was one of the recipients of the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF) from the first (July 2018) selection cycle. During his Ph.D., he also received the competitive “Raman-Charpak fellowship 2022” from the Centre Franco-Indien pour la Promotion de la Recherche Avancée (CEFIPRA) to conduct some of his research with Prof. Mihai Arghir at the Institut Pprime, University of Poitiers, France. During his doctoral research, Dr. Manas also got a chance to collaborte with Prof. Michel Fillon from the Institut Pprime, University of Poitiers, France, for one of his research objectives.

At IIT Bhubaneswar, Dr. Pattnayak plans to do interdisciplinary research in lubrication science, rotordynamics and vibrations for the development of sustainable turbomachinery.

In his free time, he loves to swim, travel across places, and try local cuisines.
