Short Term Course on Bioheat Transfer under GIAN

An MHRD sponsored GIAN course on "Bioheat Transfer" was held during June 06-17, 2016 in the School of Mechanical Sciences.  This course is aimed at educating researchers, scientists, academicians and students working in the field of Biomedical Engineering, Medical Science, Pharmaceutical Science, Biotechnology and Chemical/Mechanical Engineering. Additionally an attempt has been made to create a bridge between Medical practitioners and Engineers. There are altogether 35 number of participants (faculty and PG/UG students) who came from various organizations (i.e. IIT Kanpur, MNNIT Allahabad, GEC Aurangabad, SCTCE, Tiruvananthapuram, KIIT Bhubaneswar, CET Bhubaneswar, VSSUT Burla, etc. to name a few) to participate in this  special course. Eminent Professors from/within the country as well as from abroad had delivered special lectures in different topics relevant to the course. Professor Sunil Kumar from New York University (NYU), Brooklyn, USA was the guest faculty for this GIAN course. In order to give a good flavor to this course, Prof. Kumar came along with his three colleagues: Prof. Mostafa Sadoqi (Professor, St. John University, New York), Dr. Prabodh Phanindre, Mr. Pankaj Rajput (NYU, Brooklyn) who also delivered special lectures relevant to the course objective. In order to highlight the course on Medical perspective, two eminent Professors from AIIMS, Bhubaneswar: Prof. (Dr.) D. K. Parida and Prof. (Dr.) M. Mangaraj also delivered some stimulating lectures on Human Physiology and Radiation Therapy for Cancer treatment. Moreover, Prof. Suman Chakraborty (Professor, ME Dept. and Head, IMST) from IIT Kharagpur who has been honoured with prestigious Bhatnagar award for his outstanding research work in various cutting edge research topics on Microfluidics and Biomicrofluidics also delivered lectures highlighting in-depth understanding of the modern day drug delivery and dose estimation. Principal Coordinator of this GIAN course, Prof. S. K. Mahapatra also delivered a lecture on development of models for accurate diagnostics and treatment of tumor. At last for completeness of this GIAN course relevant to its objective, Co-Coordinator, Dr. P. Rath delivered few lectures on numerical issues of various Bioheat Transfer Models and the development of an effective general purpose Solver for the same. The course is successfully completed on June 17, 2016.
